Remarkable! Quite remarkable.

How fitting that new methods of criminal investigation, which I have written about, and urged upon a reluctant public and police force, are the very procedures that have led to the discovery of my own dark secret! Should I say my downfall? I think not, for the light that has been thrown upon my predicament by the deductive powers of Mr Holmes may prove to be my salvation. And how gratifying that this gentle­­man could almost be the product of my own pen, were it not that his penetration far surpasses the inventive powers of any merely literary intellect. My own creations in this line pale into insignificance by comparison, although I believe I can congratulate myself, in a small way, for my foresight if nothing else.
